Competition Information

The Irish word feis (pronounced fesh) means "festival" and is commonly used to describe a sanctioned Irish dance competition. Students who wish to compete must be enrolled with a CLRG-certified teacher and be in good standing with the academy. With their instructor's approval, dancers may compete in feiseanna (the plural of feis).

At Fíor Academy, competition is encouraged but never required. Some dancers enjoy the excitement and challenge of competing, while others choose to focus on dancing for fitness, friendship, and personal achievement. We support every student's goals and strive to create a positive experience for all.

Dancers who compete proudly represent Fíor Academy of Irish Dance. Families interested in competition are encouraged to review our Competition Guidelines, available through your Studio Director account. These resources include information on registering for feiseanna, competition attire, and helpful tips for first-time competitors.

Feiseanna provide dancers with the opportunity to build confidence, perform under pressure, and showcase the skills they have developed in class. Competitors are grouped by age and experience level and perform their dances to live Irish music alongside other dancers. Since each school teaches its own choreography, every dancer performs unique steps while sharing the stage.

Success in competition begins with consistent attendance and preparation. Dancers wishing to
compete are expected to be enrolled in weekly classes and attend regularly so they are well prepared
to represent the academy with confidence.
